Meet The Sheriff


 

IMG_0127a Sheriff J Adam Mabey was appointed Sheriff of Caribou County in October 2020.  Sheriff Mabey was then sworn in as the elected Sheriff of Caribou County on January 11, 2021.  Sheriff Mabey  oversees a county the approximate size of Delaware and manages not only a patrol division, but a communication center and detention facility with  26 full time employees and many high quality volunteers.   

Sheriff Mabey believes in surrounding himself with high quality professionals who provide excellent customer service to the citizens and visitors of Caribou County.

Sheriff Mabey has been in law enforcement since 1983, starting in the United States Air Force as a law  enforcement specialist. Sheriff Mabey has also served in the Idaho Army National Guard and the United States Air Force Reserves.    

Sheriff Mabey served as a police officer with the Blackfoot, Idaho Police Department and the Lewiston, Idaho Police Department.   Sheriff Mabey joined the Caribou County Sheriff Office in 1997 and worked his way up the ranks as a Patrol Deputy, Corporal, Sergeant and Chief Deputy before retiring in March 2020 to run for sheriff.   "Over two decades of service to Caribou County has given me a unique understanding of the issues that impact all of the Caribou County Community and the Sheriff's Office".

Sheriff Mabey's experience is extensive to include being a sheriff's office administrator, criminal investigator, narcotics K-9 handler, SWAT team member, community policing coordinator, and an advanced marine patrol deputy, just to name a few.  Adam has over  four years of college education in Criminal Justice Administration and Studies.   Adam possesses a Master Peace Officer Certification and has Management Certification from the Idaho Peace Officers Standard and Training Council.

 As a constitutional conservative, Sheriff Mabey has strong convictions and is courageous in fighting for the citizens of Caribou County.  Adam strongly believes in the Constitution and the American dream, he is a strong supporter of our 2nd amendment rights and the enforcement of our laws.  He is determined to protect the rights and freedoms of the people of Caribou County.
